Things have gone so well for the Ford F-150 for so long, it had to happen eventually. What’s happening to the poor Ford F-150 is the new 2022 Ram 1500. Three of the most respected industry publications have named the 2022 Ram 1500 the #1 full-size pickup in America. While the F-150’s long run at the top is unprecedented, so is this new development. Full-size truck buyers are taking notice and so, we believe, will you.

An engine comparison

Sorry to start with this one, Ford fans, but a truck’s powerplant is the heart of the operation. While both trucks offer a lot of engine choices, the 2022 Ram 1500 wins this contest without even breathing hard. The new 2022 Ram 1500 has an impressive selection of V6 and V8 gas-powered engines. Both varieties are supported by a 48-volt hybrid system, although it’s worth noting that the formidable 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 is available without a hybrid.

The new Ram is most dominant over the new Ford F-150 at the high end. The Ram tops out with an engine that delivers a jaw-dropping 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. The Ford F-150 is in the Ram’s rear-view mirror with a top-end engine performance of just 450 horsepower and a “better luck next time” 510 lb-ft of torque. Ford marketing folks might want to avoid any direct comparisons.

Comparing diesel engines

For a lot of real pickup lovers around Warren and Sterling Heights, MI, the diesel engine model is the acid test of a pickup’s capability. The 2022 Ram 1500 offers a 3.0-liter V6 diesel known as the EcoDiesel that can deliver 480 lb-ft. of torque. The Ram EdoDiesel is powerful enough to tow 12,560 lb while the Ford F-150’s diesel model is about 1,000 lb. off the mark at 11,500 lb.

Comparing top speed

We mentioned that three prominent publications declared the 2022 Ram to be America’s best pickup. One of them, MotorTrend, was so impressed the editors decided to take the new top-end Ram 1500 TRX (pronounced “Tee-Rex”) out for a spin on their test track. They clocked the new 2022 Ram TRX at a mind-blowing zero-to-60 time of 4.1 seconds, which made it the fastest truck MotorTrend ever tested. (Ford was not invited to the party.)

Comparing fuel efficiency

OK, Ford fans might be thinking. So maybe the new Ram 1500 blows the doors off the Ford F-150 when it comes to power and speed. But these are tough times. What about fuel efficiency? You might be sorry you asked,Fo rd fans. The F-150’s King Ranch 2WD Super Crew gets beat by the Ram Big Horn 4x2 Crew Cab when it comes to saving on gas. The score: Ram 20 mpg/city, Ford 17 mpg and Ram 25 mpg/highway, Ford 24 mpg.

Interior

The new Ram 1500 not only looks awesome outside, but it has inner virtues as well. In fact, it’s more appropriate to compare the 2022 Ram interior to a luxury car than the humble insides of a Ford F-150. Designers of the new Ford F-150, for example, went with an 8-inch touchscreen while the newest Ram 1500 gives Troy and New Baltimore MI buyers a 12-inch display and a sophisticatead split-screen capability. (Ford fans, are you OK?)
